Friday Fundamentals — Track Changes, PC Edition

Today’s the last day! The last day of my discussion of track changes, that is. Today I will be discussing using track changes on PC, but you can view my posts on track changes in Pages and Word for Mac as well.

Basics

First, all of the track changes options are hidden in the “Review” tab on the ribbon. Rather than having the little switch as you do in the Mac version of Word, in the PC version, you have to click the box for track changes.

There are a couple types of changes. Additions, deletions, and comments are the basics. There are some different options for which markups to view. You can choose simple, all, none, original.

I usually use “All Markup” but I know several writers who prefer simple. This is a matter of preference.

Friday Fundamentals — Track Changes, Pages Edition

Hi there! I know many of our regulars are off having fun at ConNooga, so I’m going to hold down the fort here on Magical Words and talk about track changes some more! Since we talked about using Word for Mac last week, I’m going to keep to the Mac theme for one more week. When I’m back in two weeks, I will do the same for PC.

The image above is your main screen and the part that’s marked is where you toggle track changes on and off and where you add comments. So easy!

Friday Fundamentals – Track Changes, Mac Edition

Hello and Happy Friday!

Fairly recently, I was chatting with a few of my fellow freelance editors, and in that conversation we discovered that sometimes writers–especially new ones–aren’t familiar with things we expect them to know. Track changes is one of those things. With most (correct me about the big houses, if I’m wrong, people!) editors using track changes and comments as a way to handle changes and suggestions, it is vital for writers to understand the ins and outs of the program.

So, today I am going to go through the basics of using track changes in Word on a Mac. When I’m back in two weeks, I will do the same for PC. I am going to use the bit of text I just typed as a template to show you the ropes.
