Joshua Palmatier — Clockwork Universe: Steampunk vs. Aliens

ZNB logo vertical  This is the fourth and final post here on Magical Words related to the upcoming CLOCKWORK UNIVERSE: STEAMPUNK vs. ALIENS anthology, being released by the new small press called Zombies Need Brains and edited by Patricia Bray & Joshua Palmatier.  This time we’re focusing exclusively on the anthology itself.  That’s right, this is the promo post!  All steampunk, all alien, all the time!  *grin*

I’m happy to announce the back cover copy of the anthology, along with the table of contents.  The anthology should be hitting the shelves in the next month or so, so add it to your wish list or preorder it at your favorite online bookstore!  First off, the cover art and book description.  We used the art “Steampunk Octopus” by Alex Broeckel for the cover (signed, limited edition prints available at the Zombies Need Brains online store), since it captured the concept of the anthology perfectly.

ClockworkUniverseCover  When aliens reach Earth, they encounter the clockwork mechanisms and Victorian sensibilities of a full-blown steampunk society.  Inspired by the classic science fiction adventure tales of the nineteenth century, leading fantasy and science fiction authors will bring us tales of first contact with a twist, as steam power meets laser cannons . . . and dirigibles face off against flying saucers.

Clockwork Universe contains fourteen stories from some of the genre’s top authors, including:  Ian Tregillis, Leah Cutter, Bradley P. Beaulieu, J.R. Hargenrader, Gini Koch, Jason Palmatier, C.B. Pratt, Jean Marie Ward, Tansy Rayner Roberts, Gail Z. Martin & Larry N. Martin, David J. Fortier, Brad Hafford, S.C. Butler, & Seanan McGuire.

So pour yourself that cup of tea, settle on those spectacles, sit back, and get ready to have your gaskets blown.

You’ll notice some prominent authors in that list, as well as some unknowns.  Patricia and I pride ourselves on including some unpublished authors in every anthology we edit and we hope to continue in the same vein with future anthologies.  Here’s the official Table of Contents:
