Things Other People Said

It’s holiday week at the Massey homestead, which means that I’m going to be going a little crazy for the next few days.  I figured I’d do something else a little fun today…some of my favorite quotes from Westerns (weird and otherwise!)

Our Kickstarter is still moving along.  We’re about 30% funded, which is wonderful.  If you haven’t read down that far, I want to mention that if we can somehow manage to overfund our goal, we’ll be offering a second volume, featuring stories from our very own Faith Hunter, and friends of MW Barb Hendee, Laura Anne Gilman and many more.  So if you haven’t shared the link around, please do!

One other bit of news…Emily Leverett, Margaret McGraw, Danielle Ackley-McPhail and I will be guests on tonight’s Talk of the Tavern podcast radio show!  You can listen live tonight at 9 pm, or you can download the show from a number of sources for free.  Tune in and hear all the silliness!

“I swear by my pretty floral bonnet, I will end you.”  – Malcolm Reynolds, Firefly

“You mean the Mexican goverment on one side? Maybe the Americans on the other side? Me right smack in the middle? Uhn-hn. Too dangerous. So long.” – Joe, A Fistful of Dollars

“You see, in this world there’s two kinds of people, my friend: Those with loaded guns and those who dig. You dig.” – Blondie, The Good The Bad and The Ugly

“How is Artie bearing up under his Washington assignment, sir?”
“The question is, how is Washington bearing up.” – Jim West & President Grant, The Wild Wild West

“That hydrophobia, it’s a pretty sorry way to die ain’t it doc? You know, a fellow gets shot why he’ll just fall flat on his face, o he might kick a couple of times, that what makes the crowds turn out. But what I mean is he won’t go just snatching off his clothes and sashaying around trying to bite folks.”  – Festus, Gunsmoke

“Ben: You and your education.
Adam: Education is progress! Now what have you got against it?
Ben: I don’t have anything against education – as long as it doesn’t interfere with your thinking!”
– Ben and Adam Cartwright, Bonanza

“I had no idea the legendary lady luck was still alive—Poker Alice, Queen of Hearts. They tell tales of you on every asteroid from here to T.J….Considering you’re looking pretty good—hottest granny in the star system. Poker Alice never lost a game, and she never cheated. She was just a born winner.”  – Gordon, Cowboy Bebop

“I’m not mad at you. I’m mad at our Ma. She shoulda strangled you, or at least drowned ya when you were born.” – Bambino, They Call Me Trinity

I wish everyone warmth, friendship and joy for this holiday season.  If you’re travelling, may you do so safely and without incident.  If you’re alone, please know that I’m thinking of you.  And if you’re lucky enough to be surrounded by your loved ones, I hope there’s nothing but laughter and peace.  Happy holidays, y’all!

  • Misty, great post. Continued success with the funding. Should be a great volume (or two).
