Merry Christmas, All!

Farther back than I honestly want to do the math to figure out, my dear friend Beatriz, my family and I were coming home from spending a day at the North Carolina Renaissance Faire.  It was a long drive, and to entertain ourselves, we composed a few Christmas carols fit for the fine and adventuresome pirates we were.  Today being Christmas Day, I hope all of you who celebrate it (whether in a religious or secular fashion, or both) are having a delightful time.  If you happen to feel like singing a carol or two, feel free to use our compositions to add a bit of rollick to the festivities.

Silver Bells (to the tune of “Silver Bells”)

Silver bells, golden plates,
we’re in your hold and we’re looting!
Crowns and rings, we’re stealing things!
This feels just like Christmas Day!

A Pirate’s Christmas (sung to the tune of “White Christmas”)

I’m dreaming of a pirate’s Christmas,
with every piece of gold I steal.
Where the binnacle glistens and pirates listen
for waves to break across the keel.
I’m dreaming of a pirate’s Christmas,
with jewels and silks and spice and tea
There’s a treasure ship waiting for me,
there’s a treasure ship waiting for me.

Later On (to the tune of “Winter Wonderland”)

Wild winds sing in the rigging,
On the beach, the swabbie’s digging
A beautiful sight, we’re happy tonight,
Burying our gold for later on.
In a week, or maybe longer,
We’re return and then we’ll squander
The treasure that’s in the hole we’re diggin’
To keep it safe for spending later on.

The Little Rummer Boy (to the tune of “The Little Drummer Boy”)

“Come”, they told me, “we’ll give you some rum.”
They hit me on the head and gave me no rum.
I woke up out to sea without any rum.
And now I’m climbing the rigging and dreaming of rum
Dreaming of rum, dreaming of rum.
When I next see land I’m buying some rum
And you can have some.

Captain Kestrel’s Coming To Town  (to the tune of “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town”)

You’d better watch out, you’d better not cry
You’d better not pout, I’m telling you why
Captain Kestrel’s coming to town.
She’s been on her ship a little too long
So give her some rum and sing her a song
Captain Kestrel’s coming to town.
She sees you when you’re sleeping
She sees the swag you’ve got.
Surrender to her right away
So you don’t end up shot!
Oh, you’d better watch out, you’d better not cry
You’d better not pout, I’m telling you why
Captain Kestrel’s coming to town!

Merry Christmas, all!
